I have just seen the movie 'Red Dog', most enjoyable! Had visited Dampier some years ago. The movie shows just how close can be the bond of man and dog.

I lived in Dampier as a young child in 1979. I vividly remember the statue of red dog and my dad telling me about him. I dont think I ever saw him . But I dont remember. I also remeber thinking recently when I saw the trailers on the movie. "Thats got to be about that dog in Dampier" and remembering the statue. What a trip into the past. And what a fantastic story. Good on you for keeping it alive.

As well as donating money to help buy the statue of Red Dog, I wrote to Walt Disney Studios to tell them of this remarkable story, giving a brief outline for them.
Their reply was "We get SO many of these type of stories and this is just another."
The book had not been written then, so perhaps I should have written one!
Walt Disney missed out on this money-maker and tear-jerker film.

I loved every minute of it as it brought happy memories of our twelve years in Karratha.
