Literary/Film Festival

Thursday 22nd April 2010 1pm ENDURING LOVE
This story begins on a windy day in the Chilterns when the calm, organized life of Joe Rose is shattered by a ballooning accident. The afternoon, Rose reflects, could have ended in tragedy, but for his brief meeting with Jed Parry. Unknown to Rose, something passes between them - something that gives birth in Parry to an obsession so powerful that it will test to the limits Rose’s beloved scientific rationalism, threaten the love of his wife Clarissa and drive him to take desperate measures merely to stay alive. Totally compelling, utterly and terrifyingly convincing, Enduring Love is the story of how an ordinary man can be driven to the brink of murder and madness by another’s delusions.

UK 100 mins Rated MA15+ Dir: Roger Michell
Cast: Daniel Craig, Samantha Morton, Rhys Ifans, Bill Nighy

The film differs from the book with some very obvious changes like the names of some of the characters and their occupations. Jed doesn't appear to be living a wealthy life and his final act differs to the book. Putting all that aside, do you think that the film's director has given us a rivetting interpretation of McEwan's book?

to answer you question...No, I did not think the film was a good adaptation of the book. It seemed that the changes in the film did not work and did not do justice to McEwen's great book.
Many thanks for the festival

Have not read the book but really enjoyed the film perse.Strong sense of impending doom in the first minutes of the film. Rhys Ifans impressive-gave me the creeps. Moody rainy London scenes,Daniel Craig struggling to remain in control of situation. Loved it.
